The idea

Moving the space is always a pain in the ass. This page was created when we moved from Rue du Moulin to Rue de Manchester. The move took some valuable time, was a logistic nightmare, and some property was damaged in the process.

The problem

Going forward with this project has very long term implication for HSBXL, the kind of projects being worked on, and the philosophy of our group. We would restrict ourselves to locations which have a garage door, a goods elevator, a loading dock, or doors that are wider than 80 cm. The next location need to be wheel-friendly for this project to succeed.

The positive side

• that restriction will make us wheelchair friendly.
• Reconfiguring the space layout will be easier
• Moving to a new location will be easier and faster
• Faster recovery time after a move

Restrictions on construction

• The construction MUST fit entirely on the pallet (no overhang) for safe handling
• The construction MUST be below 2 meters in height to pass doors and fit the elevator
• The construction MUST be solid enough that you can tilt the whole assembly as one block from any direction without it cracking apart or excessive bending.
• The construction SHOULD be built to maximize pallet usage whenever possible (avoid empty voids and minimize pallet count)

The hacked pallets

Pallet zero

This pallet is active
A table that was brought to the space some time ago. Its dimensions (120x80 cm) made it a prime candidate for palletization and testing the idea. It is now used to store some cooking gear under it. It can easily be brought to the loading dock in the summer for a barbecue. TODO: Add picture

Pallet one (to evaluate)

This would be the pallet supporting the cupboard with the column drill and the fixed grinder.

Pallet two (to evaluate)

3D printing pallet. The cupboards currently holding the printer would be bolted to it. It would have a back wall, behind it there would be drawer boxes with electronic components.

Pallet three and four (to evaluate)

The metal shelves near the 3D printer and the heavy workbench are 120 cm wide and 40 cm deep. They are prime candidates for palletization.
