Software Freedom Day?
Software Freedom Day (SFD) is an annual worldwide celebration of Free Software. SFD is a public education effort with the aim of increasing awareness of Free Software and its virtues, and encouraging its use.
Linux on your laptop / Android on your phone - install party
- When: 11:00 - 18:00
- Who: just ask any member... certainly someone will help.
We can help you installing and configuring linux on your laptop or a fresh android on your phone.
Just bring your laptop / phone and someone will guide you.
Take a backup yourself of files you want to keep afterwards! Better be safe then sorry.

Mailpile is a search engine and a personal webmail server.
Mailpile is an easy way to encrypt your e-mail.
Mailpile is software you run yourself, on your own computer.
3D printing / designing with free software
- When: 14:00 - 14:30 ?
- Who: Wouter
- Level: Basic
We will guide you in the whole process of designing a model and printing, all by using free software.
VooCorder
- When: 14:00 - 14:30
- Who: Vincent
- Level: geeky
Desc: An ESP8266 is controlling the VOOCorder on infrared with a web interface, making it smarter. Link: https://hackaday.com/2017/09/01/dumb-stb-gets-smart/

We'll have a shot at the software part for creating and streaming the videos using OBS: the open broadcaster software (obsproject.com). Download and start streaming quickly and easily on Windows, Mac or Linux.
Wikidata [Canceled]
- When: 15:40 - 16:10
- Who: Dereckson
- Level: Basic
Wikidata is a free and open knowledge base that can be read and edited by both humans and machines. Wikidata acts as central storage for the structured data of its Wikimedia sister projects including Wikipedia, Wikivoyage, Wikisource, and others.
Wikidata also provides support to many other sites and services beyond just Wikimedia projects! The content of Wikidata is available under a free license, exported using standard formats, and can be interlinked to other open data sets on the linked data web.
Matrix decentralized instant messaging
- When: 16:20 - 16:50
- Who: Betz
- Level: Basic
An open network for secure, decentralized communication. We are using this as chat server for the hackerspace.
Installing web apps on mobile phones
- When: 18:00 - 18:30
- Who: Friedger
- Level: A bit techy
In this session, Friedger will explain the latest developments in web technology for mobile phones. In particular, what it means to install a web app on an Android phone and what is needed to make it happen on other devices. This session is for phone users.
Kubernetes Docker workshop
- When: 17:30 - 19:00
- Who: zoobab
- Where: TODO
- Level: Geeky
You've probably heard lots about Docker. Now Docker alone is useful, but to deploy it you are better off using an orchestrator like Kubernetes. This workshop will tell you how to install one on your laptop, write your own yaml files, and learn the basics on how to use a kubernetes cluster.
RISC-V and SoC/Processors
- When: 18:40 - 19:10
- Who: seb
- Level: Geeky
Having free software is nice but sometimes it's not sufficient as there is no free platform to run on. Risc-V is a freely implementable instruction set for microprocessors. This presentation shows how an instruction set standard can help people develop hardware and software.
Food
Other editions we always provided food in the form of BBQ, after the talks. We could/should think about out stomaches again this year.
- Allee du kaai has a mobile pizza oven. Maybe Interesting to ask em if they are interested (facebook is their pref way of communication...)?
- sandwiches during the day ? (sign-in list +pay from 11-12h -> shopping in neighbourhood should be ready 12h30)
- bbq in the evening / same (sign-in list + pay till 16h30? > shopping colruyt ? / neighbourhood)
Hackers?
When you hear about hackers in the news, it's often about breaking into computers or networks. You won't find this here. A hackerspace is a place where people who love technology meet each other and get creative: discover new uses for existing technology, teach each other new things. As a ground rule, we all love to share what we know. We often organize workshops - most of them are open to everyone. In Brussels we have two hackerspaces (and some fablabs, a LUG and a makerspace), there are around ten in Belgium. See the site for more details.
